For more than thirty years, he\u00a0dedicated himself to\u00a0the research of\u00a0the Gulag history of\u00a0Karelia. His contribution to\u00a0the discovery of\u00a0mass graves of\u00a0victims of\u00a0the Stalinist terror in\u00a0Sandarmokh and Krasny Bor is\u00a0enormous. The remembrance ceremonies with the participants both from Russia and other countries are held annually in\u00a0these places now.<\/p>\n
This internationally recognized work of\u00a0Yuri Dmitriev had inflicted misery on\u00a0him.<\/p>\n
Nowadays, when the political repressions are becoming frequent in\u00a0our country again, and the truth about the past does not fit into the statist concept of\u00a0history, an\u00a0authorities\u2019 hostile attitude towards the preservation of\u00a0the memory of\u00a0state political terror is\u00a0predictable.<\/p>\n
Against this background, the \u00abCase of\u00a0Dmitriev\u00bb was initiated.<\/p>\n
The aim of\u00a0those who initiated it\u00a0was both to\u00a0suppress the work of\u00a0the historian and social activist, and to\u00a0discredit his name.<\/p>\n
We\u00a0state, there is no\u00a0doubt that Yuri Dmitriev is\u00a0innocent and the charge is\u00a0falsified.<\/p>\n
The first trial of\u00a0Dmitriev ended with his just acquittal. But for the falsifiers, it\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0possible to\u00a0resign themselves to\u00a0defeat. Against overwhelming evidence and giving a\u00a0blind eye to\u00a0the massive protest campaign in\u00a0Russia and many other countries, they want to\u00a0lynch an\u00a0undesirable person.<\/p>\n
