Today, there are 362 names in\u00a0these obviously incomplete lists. A\u00a0year ago, they included the names of\u00a0305\u00a0individuals. The real number of\u00a0political prisoners and other persons imprisoned for political reasons is\u00a0undoubtedly significantly higher.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How have the numbers changed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lists of\u00a0political prisoners published by\u00a0Memorial Human Rights Centre on\u00a030\u00a0October 2019 contained the names of\u00a0252 individuals imprisoned in\u00a0connection with the exercise of\u00a0the right to\u00a0freedom of\u00a0religion or\u00a0religious affiliation, and 53\u00a0people imprisoned for other political reasons.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0year later, on\u00a030\u00a0October 2020, there are 362 people in\u00a0our lists: 297 of\u00a0them are imprisoned in\u00a0connection with the exercise of\u00a0the right to\u00a0freedom of\u00a0religion or\u00a0religious affiliation (<a href=\"https:\/\/memohrc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=0beb3097c1&amp;id=e2230b3fa6&amp;e=339ca062ef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/memohrc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D0beb3097c1%26id%3De2230b3fa6%26e%3D339ca062ef&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605003292551000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHZZVwVROODCYvV7DWK5FJyRi5X7w\">see the list<\/a>), 65\u00a0\u2014 for other political reasons (<a href=\"https:\/\/memohrc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=0beb3097c1&amp;id=39c1080005&amp;e=339ca062ef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/memohrc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D0beb3097c1%26id%3D39c1080005%26e%3D339ca062ef&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605003292551000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFAbTm_Nf9dmI8LgQy0OAWQKaqP4w\">see the list<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has happened to\u00a0those in\u00a0the religious list?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, convicted Muslims Sukhrab Kaltuyev, Ziyavdin Dapayev, Aivar Khabibullin, Artur Maslakov and Magomednabi Magomedov have been released from prison. font-family: georgia, times, times new roman, serif;\">The followers of\u00a0the St. Petersburg Church of\u00a0Scientology\u00a0\u2014 Ivan Matsitsky, Anastasia Terentyeva, Konstantsia Yesaulkova, and Sakhib Aliev\u00a0\u2014 were released from pre-trial detention centres.<\/p>\n<p>The persecution of\u00a0Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses has continued. Although over the past year the names of\u00a039\u00a0people have disappeared from our lists as\u00a0they were released from prison, given suspended sentences or\u00a0fines\u00a0\u2014 over the same period we\u00a0recognised another 56\u00a0Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses as\u00a0political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has changed in\u00a0the general list?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, seven defendants in\u00a0the Moscow case\u00a0\u2014 Yegor Zhukov, Vladimir Yemelyanov, Aleksandr Mylnikov, Sergei Fomin, Samariddin Radzhabov, Andrei Barshai and Nikita Chirtsov, as\u00a0well as\u00a0Vyacheslav Shatrovsky, a\u00a0defendant in\u00a0the Artpodgotovka case, have been released from pre-trial detention centres and prisons. Scientists Svyatoslav Bobyshev and Vladimir Lapygin, convicted for treason, were released as\u00a0well. Reutov activist Yevgeny Kurakin was released from house arrest under the written undertaking not to\u00a0leave his place of\u00a0residence. Defendants in\u00a0the New Greatness case Maria Dubovik, Anna Pavlikova, Dmitry Poletayev and Maksim Roshchin received suspended sentences.<\/p>\n<p>For a\u00a0short time, our lists included the names of\u00a0LGBT activist from Komsomolsk-on-Amur Yulia Tsvetkova and shaman from Yakutsk Aleksandr Gabyshev.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0the same time, we\u00a0have recognized as\u00a0political prisoners the defendants in\u00a0the Network case\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/memohrc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=0beb3097c1&amp;id=dd2e1a3447&amp;e=339ca062ef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/memohrc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D0beb3097c1%26id%3Ddd2e1a3447%26e%3D339ca062ef&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605003292551000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGdm6958IqP1Qu35IzGZ_AEDZnOog\">Maksim Ivankin, Mikhail Kulkov, Vasily Kuksov, Dmitry Pchelintsev, Arman Sagynbayev, Andrei Chernov, Ilya Shakursky and Igor Shishkin<\/a>, the defendants in\u00a0the Moscow \u2018mass riots\u2019
